About Lyn James

I trained as a ceramic artist for Coalport and then became a designer for them doing many commemorative pieces, I gained a degree in illustration at Stoke Polytechnic after which I worked as a designer for Caverswall China working on many different designs including designs for Harrods, Thomas Goode, dinner ware designs for the Sultan of Brunei and work on the Rupert Bear range. After this I worked for Royal Doulton doing various designs including dinner ware and hotel ware ranges.
The ceramic pieces are one off originals; first the design is sketched on then painted with Metal oxides over many firings until the required result is achieved.
My work is focused on illustrative ceramics and paintings which are often inspired by the local area its bottle ovens and its people often with nostalgia and with humour which is in a abundance in the Potteries.
