About Nicholas Hudson Paine
Nicholas Hudson Paine is an American artist living and working in Stoke-On-Trent.
His collage-paintings cover a broad range of themes with local identity and local interest being a big focus of his work.
Nicholas often looks at the historical, nostalgic, and locally-defining aspects of the area, combining it with a personal and emotional view that runs throughout his work.
His paintings are symbolic, whimsical and dreamlike, celebrating the joys and hardships of life and the diversity of human emotion and experience.
Though his work looks at a variety of themes, his paintings mostly focus on the ideas of identity (especially regional and cultural identity), personal emotion, past experience, love and romance, relationships, religion, memory, sport, where we live, and the human condition.
A lot of his paintings are filled with symbolism and allegories, with a psychological undercurrent of who we are as people and what we go through in life. Paine has had exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout England and Scotland, and he has said that he is very proud to be a part of Barewall.co.uk and to exhibit paintings in his home town.
