The Sneyd Colliery Disaster of 1942 was the last major coal mining disaster in North Staffordshire , taking the lives of 57 men.
It was a tragedy that has never been forgotten, hence plans to establish a permanent memorial in the town of Burslem, Stoke on Trent as a fitting tribute to the valiant men who lost their lives on January 1st, New Years Day.
Author Mervyn Edwards presents the story of the disaster, based on newspaper reports, official documents and the memories of some who were involved. In doing so he pays homage to a very special breed of men.
