Freehand machine embroidery and silk paint on habotai silk.
This is a small portrait-oriented rectangular freehand machine embroidery on silk fabric. The colours are predominantly greens for foliage and grass, browns for tree trunks and blues and lavender tones for the bluebells. There is an overgrown path leading you into the woodland. Because it is embroidery there is a strong sense of texture - which is appropriate for vegetation.
Freehand Machine Embroidery : J. Lyn Leech. Freehand machine embroidery is not computer generated. Each piece is unique as the artist uses the machine needle to ‘draw’ on the silk. Stitch captures the characteristics of foliage and flowers particularly effectively. I am inspired by the natural world as can be seen in my picture of the bluebell wood . Focusing on landscapes, seascapes and the seasons, I machine embroider on a hand painted silk background to create a layered, textured finish to my work.
