Framed in original wooden frame selected by Jack Simcock for his traditional paintings. The frame has been cleaned and finished by the gallery restoration services ensuring it will work instantly within the home.

The head in the foreground of the painting is of a man's head with spectacles. Behind the head is a stone wall and a hawthorned tree. Behind the wall is a glimpse of a field with a hint of greens and beyond the field and behind the tree is a house or barn which gable with a pitched roof. The sky is grey and misty. The whole painting is of a very dark rural British misty landscape as found in the area surrounding Mowcop, Biddulph, Brown Edge, the landscape of the Staffordshire Moorlands.
