In the foreground a field slopes upto a stone wall with a leafless tree sitting behind central to the painting, sitting infront of the half view of a stone cottage with lean to and add on side building, pitched roofs and chimney. The Moorland cottage sits in front of the misty moorland hills behind in the distance. The sky is grey and misty. The whole painting is of a very dark rural British misty landscape as found in the area surrounding Mowcop, Biddulph, Brown Edge, Lask Edge, the landscape of the Staffordshire Moorlands.
