This painting is from the archive collection of Geoffrey Wynne. Painted whilst in Stoke-on-Trent during the 80's it shows the backroom working of the working class pastime and sport of whippet racing, in the racing kennels a handler is possibly preparing a dog for a forthcoming race. Stoke on Trent's Victorian athletics stadium was converted to god racing in 1932, located in Cobridge, between Hanley and Burslem. It was simply called Cobridge Greyhound Stadium, it closed in 1990.
