Acrylic, ink on paper.
This is a large acrylic painting on paper in portrait orientation. The subject is the pithead winding gear on Chatterley Whitfield which is a strong graphic image using acrylic paints and pen and ink to capture this imposing, rusting structure. nature is trying to reclaim the land with abundant trees and undergrowth for which I have used vivid greens to contrast with the rusting steel structure.
For many years I have been documenting the character of the buildings and the constantly changing post industrial landscape. I am fascinated by the many abandoned, derelict industrial structures, factories, shops and terraced houses that link the past heritage of Stoke-on-Trent to the present.
The painting is framed, and is a new work. It is part of a continuing series on Chatterley Whitfield. Each time I paint it I am searching for new ways to represent it.
