Hand Embroidery - Cotton Thread on Fabric

This is a square embroidery depicting a beaten woman sewing curse words into a piece of cloth. The figure is illuminated by yellow light on the right side of her face giving a contrast between dark and light colour threads to give the impression she is stitching in a darkened room.

Jo Shaw, an emerging textile artist, is a hand embroiderer and quilter. She stitches narrative and abstract images in an impressionistic style using layers of threads in a variety of colours and weights.
