Footsteps in the Past by Margaret Moxom
On the 16th august 1842, troops fired on chartist demonstrators outside the Big House on Moorlands Road, killing Josiah Heapy of Leek and injuring others. Afterwards, 146 Chartists were imprisoned and 54 transported to Australia.
The Chartists were demanding the right to vote and parliamentary reform.
In this novel, Jane finds herself taken back to this time after seeing the back of a ghostly figure running from Ash Hall Nursing Home where she worked.
She is compelled to find why she is taken to this time.
