Painting by artist Andy Day titled Undercover 2021 by Andy Day for Three Counties Open 2022.
Artwork Size: 92x122cm
oil on stretch canvas, ready to hang.
This is a rectangular painting in a landscape format and is thickly painted in oil. The colours are quite subdued with yellow ochre and umbers predominating. Lines of paint, form a kind of mesh in parts and are sometimes applied straight from the tube. Although it is an abstract image and the paint as applied is as important as the image, there is a reference to landscape and also to the human form in the work.
I studied painting at the school of art in Burslem from 1975 to 1978 and an enjoyment of art has played a big part in my life ever since. Campaigning for the peace movement and struggles for justice dominated my working life and I worked as the co-ordinator of the North Staffs Pensioners' Convention from 1995 until I retired last year, although I still play a voluntary role in the organisation. For the last few years I have focused much more on my painting and have greatly enjoyed taking part in all the Three Counties exhibitions.
