This is a square, semi-abstracted landscape painting. It divides into two horizontal parts. The lower part is a barren heathland landscape made up of patches of shades of grey through to black, several shades of orange, and cream, criss-crossed with lines, some scratched, some drawn, and texture to suggest a raw and rugged landscape of peat, heath, rock and, possibly, burnt land. There are tiny flecks of blue near the bottom of the painting. The slightly larger upper part is a swirling mass of grey and white cloud.
Originally from Yorkshire I moved to Shropshire in 2002 though I spent most of my time overseas as a Humanitarian Aid Worker. I fell in love with painting in early 2020 after being told at school not to bother with art as I didn't have the talent. I now paint virtually every day. I'm particularly interested in semi-abstracted landscapes, developing texture through multiple layers and mark making. I like to create a sense of rawness and energy. In 2021 my painting 'The Longing Mountain' (triptych) won the Belle Vue Arts Festival / Soden Collective art gallery competition in Shrewsbury.
