Problem-solving how to translate a natural scene into freehand machine embroidery is always a stimulating challenge. The texture created by the stitching on the silk adds a tactile dimension to the interpretation of the scene.
This piece is based on a photograph taken at Copmere in Staffordshire last Spring. ‘Freehand’ means that the artist is, in effect, directly ‘drawing with the needle’ - there is no pre-programming of stitches.
