The Light Grotto is an installation by Philip Hardaker. Since leaving the Royal College of Art in 1980 Philip set up his Studio in Packmoor, Stoke-on-Trent in 1983, working as a self employed artist and educator.
The Light Grotto is a combination of 30 years of exploring light through sculpure. The subject matter within the work relates to environmental issues, ecology, historic events, preservation of the earth, and love of The Potteries. It has both serious intent laced with irony and a strong sense of humour. Recent work includes works created with Parian a beautiful translucent clay which responds to light exquisitely.
The show in on throughout the 3 days of Light Night and closes on Sat 9 February 2019 .

Staffordshire’s cultural icon Arthur Berry is celebrated with a Multi Arts Evening of Jazz, Beer and Oat Cakes at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery.
Come and let your hair down and dance the night away with an evening of jazz music from local band ‘Fine and Dandy’ led by well-known musician and broadcaster Mel Hill and readings from Arthur Berry by local film producer Ray Johnson MBE.
The evening performance is inspired by the work of artist, writer and poet Arthur Berry and his friend, musician and local radio producer Arthur Wood.
On Christmas Day 1978, the two Arthurs broadcast a fantasia of poetry, prose and songs, entitled “Obsessed by Oatcakes”. Believed lost for over 35 years, a recording of this extraordinary piece has recently come to light. Mel Hill and Ray Johnson will present highlights from this rediscovered treasure, along with live jazz music.
Jazz, Beer and Oatcakes aims to give Berry's stories from the streets a fresh airing while visiting the Potteries “Cool Jazz” scene.
The evening recognises the originality and inspiration of local artists who were pioneers in their creative achievements; Fashioned on the local streets, displayed on the International stage.
Bring ARThur alive and be part of a Berry Berry special evening.
