Back Yards IV A5 signed ltd edition print by David Brammeld
Shows back yards of derelict properties in the early noughties (2000's) in Stoke on Trent.
This period was a time when a programme of work across the North by the then Labour government to replace old housing stock with new houses was shelved by the new government. This left places particularly terrace streets sitting with swathes of abandoned properties to be demolished leaving those areas in a quagmire of deprivation for a number of years. David chose to record this period of time in the Potteries which is now changing thankfully. Now in 2020s many of these sites have been replaced with new housing, along with brownfield sites providing new housing stock for the community. Of course we still need more as Stoke on Trent's population grows with many people moving back or relocating to Stoke-on-Trent.
