Stanley Lewis

SL7 Woman and Child study drawing for Hyde Park in Summer painting by Stanley Lewis

£250

Only 1 piece in stock!

An original pencil drawing on brown card by Stanley Lewis (1905–2009), dating from around 1931.

This single-sided work is almost certainly a preparatory study for the female figure holding a baby, seated on a bench to the right of Lewis's celebrated painting Hyde Park in Summer (1931) — offering a rare and direct window into his compositional process.

There are slight red line markings beneath the chin of the woman's head, consistent with the artist's working method of annotation and revision.

  • Medium: Pencil on brown card
  • Card size: 20 × 34 cm
  • Condition: Unframed; single-sided
  • Country of origin: Great Britain

A significant piece for collectors of British modernism and those with an interest in Stanley Lewis's working practice, particularly his Hyde Park series.
