Large Carbon-Trapped Stoneware Lidded Pots by Alex Shimwell (2024)
A pair of large hand-thrown stoneware lidded pots by Derbyshire-based potter Alex Shimwell, made in 2024. Each pot is fired using a carbon trapping technique, producing a deep, lustrous black surface with subtle tonal variation, then finished with a raw wood ash decoration that adds an organic, unpredictable texture to the glaze.
Standing at 25cm tall including the lid, these are substantial, sculptural pieces that command attention on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or plinth. Each carries Alex's distinctive maker's mark.

Carbon trapping and wood ash glazes produce unique results — no two pieces are identical.
