Small Shino Round Bowls by Alex Shimwell (2024)
A set of small hand-thrown round stoneware bowls by Derbyshire-based potter Alex Shimwell, made in 2024. Each bowl is finished in a classic Shino glaze — one of the most revered glazes in studio ceramics, known for its warm, creamy surface, subtle orange blush, and distinctive fire markings that make every piece entirely its own.
Compact and tactile, these bowls are as pleasing to hold as they are to look at. Use them as rice or dipping bowls, a catch-all on a desk, or simply as quiet objects of beauty on a shelf.

Alex Shimwell began potting in the early 2000s in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, taught by master potter Kevin Millward. He now works from his studio in Derbyshire, producing a small, considered body of work in the British studio ceramics tradition.
Glaze surfaces vary between pieces — each bowl is unique.
