A beautifully understated pair of hand-thrown stoneware vases by Derbyshire-based potter Alex Shimwell. Each small round vase features a classic jar lip form and is finished in a traditional Shino glaze — one of the most celebrated glazes in studio ceramics, prized for its warm, milky surface and subtle fire markings.

Made in 2024 and signed by the artist, these vases are perfect as a pair or displayed individually. Their compact scale makes them ideal for a windowsill, shelf, or desk.

Alex Shimwell began potting in the early 2000s in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, taught by master potter Kevin Millward. He now works from his studio in Derbyshire, producing a small, considered body of work in the British studio ceramics tradition.
