This book is a work of great importance to British 20th century art history and especially to the Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire art scene from 1960s to early 2000's. It is a new insight into the original artworks by George Mallalieu (1941 - 2004). A painter's work thought lost from the British art landscape through fire. Yet a record is now available to study the work of this painter and his career for the first time since his death in July 2004.

George was head of painting at North Staffordshire polytechnic after Arthur Berry retired from the role in 1985, providing a revitalised new record and insight into the ongoings of the art scene in the Potteries for the next 40 years.

Inside first page describes:

"This book covers four decades of figurative painter George Mallalieu who taught and painted in North Staffordshire during the latter part of the 20th century. Born in Oldham and after a diverse upbringing in different parts of the UK George opted for a career in the Arts. He became the instrumental in developing Honours Degree art level art education in Stoke on Trent following a significant teaching period of art in Ghana, West Africa."

"A painter throughout his life, most of his paintings were sadly destroyed in two separate incidents in 1979 and 2000.  However an extensive photographic record remains along with numerous drawings, etchings, sketchbooks and texts which shine a light on the lost paintings and insight into Mallalieu's thinking and practice."
