Philip Hardaker
And All Shall Be Well, Stoke-on-Trent Year of Culture Ceramic Art by Philip Hardaker
And All Shall Be Well by Philip Hardaker is an original framed ceramic artwork combining hand-modelled, decorated and glazed word art with found ceramic shards from Stoke-on-Trent. Its green glazed ceramic and hopeful inscriptions bring together a reassuring message and a celebration of the city's culture.
The work features the words “And All Shall Be Well” and “Stoke-on-Trent Year of Culture Every Year”. The first inscription echoes the words of the medieval English mystic Julian of Norwich.
Fragments of old pottery gathered from the ground in Stoke-on-Trent connect the piece to the material heritage of the Potteries. A reclaimed wooden frame, found by the artist and decorated with an embossed maple-leaf design, completes the work.
