Shauna McCann (b. 1978)
Shauna McCann is a ceramic and glass artist who works on both personal and public art projects across Europe.
Background and Education
Born 1978 in Calgary, Canada, Shauna later moved to Omagh, Northern Ireland. After studying a foundation in Co. Londonderry, she studied in the UK from 1997-2000 at the Cumbria College of Art & Design, graduating with a BA(Hons) Design Crafts. She now has a ceramic studio in Ballygawley and has won many awards and residencies, with her work held in public collections around the world.
Recent Exhibition at The New Vic Theatre
Shauna recently had a solo show at The New Vic Theatre in Newcastle-under-Lyme titled "Saggars, Bricks and Henny Penny Farthing", a ceramic exhibition of unique porcelain imagery. Shauna describes the work as:
"My new body of work celebrates the potteries and the clay industry whilst also creating a narrative around themes of metamorphosis, memory, nostalgia and storytelling. The exhibition location has been chosen because of the area's pottery industry history. My aim was to create backdrops of nostalgic industrial ambience with a juxtaposition of theatrical figures bursting out of the work".
The exhibition was a great success and we are delighted to be able to represent Shauna McCann by showing this collection of Pottery themed work here in Stoke-on-Trent. Her sister also lives in Stoke-on-Trent.
