About the artist and setting
This is an early original painting by C W Brown, whose work is represented in the collection of The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery.
The monumental steps of Wallasey Town Hall descend towards the River Mersey. The town hall, described in the existing gallery record as built in 1913, reflects the borough’s growth through maritime activity and tourism at the turn of the twentieth century. The Grade II* listed building serves as Wirral Council’s headquarters and administrative centre.
