Head for the Hills 2026 by Helen Boardman

One of a small series of just three paintings reflecting on autumn, Head for the Hills captures the season at its most vivid and transient. Wedgwood blue skies contrast with the red and yellow ochres of drying bracken and curling leaves; walking takes a slower pace along and across ploughed fields. There is a sense of the landscape loosening itself — unravelling, as summer's grip finally gives way.

Developed from plein air sketches and saved thoughts made whilst walking in early October 2025, and completed in the studio in Spring 2026. Finished with artist's professional UV satin varnish and wax.

Part of a small Autumn series 2026.
