Old Hall, Madeley, 1978 — Maurice Wade (1917–1991)

A quietly compelling record of a vanishing England, Old Hall, Madeley was painted by Maurice Wade in 1978. Wade's eye for the character of old buildings — their weathered surfaces, their relationship to the land around them — is on full display here. Madeley, a village in Staffordshire with deep historical roots, provided Wade with a subject that sits at the intersection of landscape and social history.

Published in 2026 by Petr Hajek with the kind permission of the Maurice Wade Estate, this print was released to accompany the landmark exhibition Maurice Wade: A Painter from No 57 at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery (12 October 2023 – 26 January 2024).
