Paine Proffitt (b. 1972)
Paine Proffitt is an American artist living and working in Stoke-on-Trent. Best known for his unique visual style, his work captures both the passion of sport in the area and the industrial history of the Potteries.
The "Clay Dust" Collection
We are proud to feature works from Paine's acclaimed Clay Dust series. Originally exhibited at the Heritage Art Gallery at Middleport Pottery, this collection explores the life, work, and history of Stoke-on-Trent's pottery industry. The Subject: Focused on the people of the potbanks during the heyday of the Potteries. The Style: A surreal and romanticised tribute to the industrial past, capturing the atmosphere of the bottle ovens and the workers who fueled them.
Sports Art and Global Recognition
Paine is also a celebrated sports artist with a global following. His accolades include: Museum Collections: His work hangs in The National Football Museum, The World Rugby Museum, The US Baseball Hall of Fame, and The Kelvingrove (Glasgow). Ambassador Role: In 2018, Paine was honoured as a Sporting Heritage Ambassador, recognized alongside sporting greats in a collaboration supported by The Arts Council. "On The Terraces": During the 2020 lockdown, Paine launched this popular cartoon series on Instagram, capturing the humour of match days.
